Autism Assessments

I have conducted many diagnostic Autism assessments with children, and have provided upskilling to other clinicians in this area. I aim to complete assessments in a way that is neurodiversity-affirming (i.e., that highlights each person’s amazing strengths, considers the social model of disability, uses neurodiversity-affirming language, advocates for changes/additional supports in the client’s environment, and completed in a collaborative way that invites feedback/input from each client and their family).

Autism assessments typically include:

  • A comprehensive developmental interview with parents
  • A review of previous reports written by treating professionals and/or teachers related to the presenting concerns
  • Standardised psychometric questionnaires completed by parents and teachers
  • Observations and assessment with your child, using clinical judgment as well as standardised tools such as the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule – Second Edition (ADOS-2) or Monteiro Interview Guidelines for Diagnosing the Autism Spectrum – Second Edition (MIGDAS-2). I select the most appropriate assessment tools to use based on each person’s unique situation
  • Scoring and interpretation of all assessment components
  • A feedback appointment with parents, and your child/adolescent
  • A report summarising the assessment findings, and recommendations for ongoing support

The cost for an autism assessment package with the above standard inclusions is $2390.

There are additional costs with daycare, kindergarten and school observation sessions ($260 per 50 minute appointment, including travel time and costs).

If required, a cognitive assessment can also be completed in addition to the autism assessments for an additional cost.

Cognitive Assessments

I can provide cognitive assessments to understand a child’s cognitive profile (their intelligence, or thinking/problem-solving abilities).

Cognitive assessments typically include:

  • A comprehensive developmental interview with parents
  • A review of previous reports written by treating professionals and/or teachers related to the presenting concerns
  • Standardised psychometric questionnaires completed by parents and teachers
  • Formal standardised assessment in-clinic with your child/adolescent. A test commonly used is the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children – Fifth Edition (WISC-V)
  • Scoring and interpretation of all assessment components
  • A feedback appointment with parents. In some cases it may also be beneficial for your child/adolescent to attend
  • A report summarising the assessment findings, and recommendations for supports and practical strategies to help your child’s learning

The cost for a cognitive assessment package is $2000.

There are additional costs with daycare, kindergarten and school observation sessions ($260 per 50 minute appointment, including travel time and costs).
